CORONA: Film producer lives the dream
By day, Tom Luong is a manufacturing engineer in Corona. By night, Luong is a film producer who is turning his film making dreams into reality.
With a few short films already under his belt, Luong is ready to tackle the final steps in producing his full feature-length movie, “Grounded.”
Luong began this project about two years ago and is now ready to step out with it. He is working on a limited budget for the size of the project.
“This is a PG, maybe PG-13 movie, kind of based on ‘Goonies’ and ‘Home Alone.’ This story is coming from the kid in me; I’ve always wanted to go out and do crazy things, or to be the one left at home so I can do what I want,” Luong said with a mischievous grin.
After the production is complete, Luong will be taking his film to film festivals, while approaching Disney, the Family Channel and other family-friendly entertainment companies.
There are several other projects coming to maturity at this time in Luong Films, which is based in Colton. He has three full feature-length scripts and a two-hour television pilot finished.
There is a science-fiction novel being written by his production writer, Julian Phillips.
“I’ve been preparing for this, and now it’s time for me to start showing the colors of my work,” Luong said. “My real passion is the continuance of humanity, finding ways to preserve humanity and to see the future as happy and fulfilling for humanity.”
And while “Grounded” is a family comedy, Luong has a penchant for futuristic views of the planet and solar system.
His sci-fi stories are non-apocalyptic with that always have happy endings. He likes to “envision the future and think about how it should be, for the sake of all of us humans.”
For his current project, he is looking for community members who would like to become cast and crew members.
He would also like to film at Inland locations that include homes, a cabin, a bank, a mom-and-pop-style hamburger joint, and an airport.
“If anyone would like to be part of this production, I would love to talk to them about helping to make this effort come to fruition,” he said.
